// PRIVACY

Privacy, in plain English.

Calc Quest is a free practice game made by a math teacher. We store the minimum needed to run the game and give teachers useful mastery data — nothing else. Here's exactly what that means.

// 01

What we store

  • Your account:your email and sign-in identity, handled by our authentication provider (Neon Auth), plus an auto-generated explorer display name (like “Radiant Secant”) that's used inside the game.
  • Your progress: per-topic mastery, question attempts, streaks, XP, and time played — the stuff that makes the game work and shows you (and your teacher) what to practice next.
  • Your class: which class section you joined, if you joined one with a class code.

Who sees what: your teacher can see your real name, email, and progress for their own class sections only. Leaderboards show only explorer display names — never real names or emails. Other students never see your real identity.

Google sign-in & Google Classroom

If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google profile. That's the standard sign-in information — we never see your Google password, and we don't get access to anything else in your Google account just from signing in.

Teachers can optionally connect Google Classroom to set up a class faster. When a teacher connects, we ask Google for read-only access to their course list and class rosters (the classroom.courses.readonly and classroom.rosters.readonly scopes) plus the connected account's email. We use the course names and the names and emails of students on the roster solely to set up the class. We don't read assignments, grades, or coursework, and we never write anything to Classroom.

To keep that connection working, we store one Google credential (a refresh token) for the connected teacher, encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM). It's used only to fetch courses and rosters when the teacher asks, and we delete it when the teacher disconnects Google Classroom. Teachers can revoke Calc Quest's access anytime at myaccount.google.com/permissions, and can email us (address below) to have the stored credential deleted immediately.

Calc Quest's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
