The terms, in plain English.
Calc Quest is a free AP math practice game operated by Surphmore Mathematics. Using it means you agree to these terms. We've kept them short and honest — they say what you can expect from us and what we expect from you.

What Calc Quest is
A study game covering AP Precalculus, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC. Questions are generated and machine-checked, progress is tracked per topic, and teachers can run classes with a live mastery dashboard. It's free — no fees, no ads, no paid tiers. Practicing here should help you learn, and we work hard on question quality, but no practice tool can promise a particular AP score — that part is yours.

Your account
You sign up with an email address or a Google account, and you're responsible for keeping your sign-in method secure. Students are expected to use Calc Quest with the knowledge of their school or parent/guardian — most students arrive through a class invite from their teacher. If you're under 13, only use Calc Quest through your school. One account per person; don't impersonate anyone else.

Teachers and classes
Teacher accounts exist to run real classes. A teacher only ever sees data for students who join that teacher's class, and must use it for legitimate educational purposes — supporting their own students. Rosters imported from Google Classroom are for setting up your class, nothing else. Don't create a teacher account to collect data about students who aren't yours; that's grounds for immediate termination.

Fair play
Don't attack, overload, scrape, or reverse-engineer the service; don't use bots or scripts to farm XP or game the leaderboards (we detect it); don't probe other people's data; don't use Calc Quest to harass anyone. We can suspend or remove accounts that break these rules — and since the game is about learning calculus, cheating at it is also just a strange life choice.

Your data and our content
Your progress data is yours — teachers can export their class's data as CSV, and anyone can request deletion (see our Privacy page). The game itself — its questions, art, characters, code, and branding — belongs to Surphmore Mathematics. You're welcome to use questions in your own classroom teaching; you may not repackage or resell the service or its content. If you send us feedback or ideas, we can use them to improve the game without owing you anything (though Del appreciates you).

Google services
Google sign-in and the optional Google Classroom import are provided through Google's APIs and are also subject to Google's own terms. You can revoke Calc Quest's access anytime at myaccount.google.com/permissions or with the Disconnect button on the teacher dashboard.

The fine print that keeps us honest
Calc Quest is provided “as is”. We aim for accuracy (every question is machine-verified) and uptime, but we can't guarantee the service will always be available, error-free, or right for your specific needs, and we may change or discontinue features as the game evolves. To the fullest extent the law allows, Surphmore Mathematics isn't liable for indirect or consequential damages from using a free service; our total liability is capped at $0 — which is also, not coincidentally, what you paid. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited.

Ending things
You can stop using Calc Quest anytime and request account deletion by emailing mathematics@surphmore.com. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or endanger other users, and we'll be reasonable about it.

Changes and where disputes go
If we make meaningful changes to these terms, we'll update the date at the top; continuing to use Calc Quest after that means you accept the changes. These terms are governed by the laws of North Carolina, USA, and any disputes belong in its courts. Questions about any of this: mathematics@surphmore.com.
